INTI RAYMI

The Inti Raymi means in quechua ¨the festival of the sun¨.
For the Incas, the sun was their god.

The Inti Raymi is an Inca celebration and it was the most important celebration for them because they honor the sun and the earth. It was celebrated in Cuzco, the capital of the Inca Empire.

It was a religious ceremony. The Inti Raymi takes place during the shortest day of the year. In South America this day is in june.

The Incas celebrate the Inti Raymi because they want to thank their god, the sun, and the earth for the food and ask them to give them  food for the next year.

It was a very colorful ceremony, the Incas offer corn, potatoes and other food to the sun.
